To Most Restaurants about their Straws

Dear Red Lobster, Outback Steakhouse, Macaroni Grill, and the Like,

I love that you use reusable dishes and utensils to serve your meals in, and that I can count on getting a high level of quality no matter which location I visit. However, it makes me sad to see you using disposable plastic straws, when there are reusable glass ones on the market. I know this would mean more cleaning for your staff, but I feel that the plastic, production energy, and landfill space you'd save by switching to glass straws would make a large impact, and would be something your company could advertise with pride.

I strongly urge you to switch to reusable straws and napkins (it seems to be hit or miss whether locations have paper or cloth napkins). There will be cleaning costs, but you won't have to throw money away with every patron that comes in requesting a straw.

Sincerely,

Kimber Starling
